DEPARTMENT OF VETERAN AFFAIRS (DVA) AND CHIROPRACTIC

Additional Information

The Department of Veterans Affairs will fund Chiropractic services for eligible DVA members holding a DVA Gold card or a DVA White card. Your GP will need to refer you to this service under the Allied Health Services treatment cycle. To find out more information please visit the Department of Veterans Affairs website.

There is no additional charge on Chiropractic services at Elsternwick Family Chiropractic for eligible DVA members and we will bill DVA directly for your Chiropractic consultation.

Who is eligible?

Your DVA status will determine your level of cover, either white or gold. For white card holders to be entitled to Chiropractic care, they must require a referral from their GP or Chiropractor with the current referral before commencing treatment.

Gold Card Veterans are covered fully for Chiropractic care.

White cards are covered if a referral to a Chiropractor is requested due to an injury sustained or caused by service or war.

How do I access this service?

You must obtain a referral to your chiropractor from one of the following; Chiropractor with current referral, GP, Local Medical Officer, Medical specialist, Doctor in Hospital, Hospital discharge planner.

These referrals are active for 12 months periods only. You must go see your GP or other source for a new referral every 12 months.

What happens when I visit the Chiropractor?

Tell your chiropractor you are a DVA Health Card patient, and present the card to reception.  The Chiropractor will assess and diagnose you through orthopaedic tests and x-rays may need to be taken (which will also be covered by your DVA card). Your chiropractor will determine a suitable treatment plan and discuss this with you.

Are there limits to the number of services I can receive?

Yes, this is up to your treating Chiropractor. After assessing you they will establish the amount and frequency of services you require, as well as discuss the type of treatment you will be receiving.

**Physiotherapy and chiropractic care can’t be provided at the same time for the same condition**

Do I need to pay for treatment?

No, DVA pays the Chiropractor directly for the services provided.
